Of course, this guy is only one of the many types of drivers that piss me off these days. Actually, he's not even close to the top of my list. I really don't have too much of a problem with people who want to exceed the speed limit, provided that they don't drive with speed AND act like an idiot at the same time. Then, of course, you have his opposite. That's the person that's driving below the speed limit, and won't get out of the far left lane. Now THIS person is very near the top of my list of idiot drivers. By driving this way, they are showing absolutely no consideration for other people on the road. They're pretty much saying "I'm going to drive the speed I want, and the hell with everyone else". Fine, if you want to drive below the speed limit, there is a proper lane for you to do this - the far right lane.
Let's see, some other examples of idiot drivers: The person who weaves in and out of traffic, without any regards to anyone else's safety. This person IS at the top of my list. Then you have his cousin, who is traveling in the right hand lane, yet goes all out to make sure that the person entering the highway can't get in front of him. This guy's never heard of courtesy. Then, there's the idiots who travel down the highway, go right past a sign that says "Lane Closed - 1500 feet", and don't get into an open lane until the very last minute, and when they do, they usually cut people off in the process. Again, no consideration.
Now, on side roads, you have the idiot who's never heard of a turn signal. What's with these people anyway? I don't know about you, but when I go to make a turn, my turn signal comes on almost automatically. It's just basic instinct to me to put on your turn signal before you make a turn. Of course, when this jerk makes his turn without a turn signal, causing you to come close to ramming him in the rear, and you blow your horn, he has the nerve to give YOU the finger! Like it was your fault! Yeah right, you should have KNOWN that he was going to make that turn. After all, you are a mind reader, aren't you?
There are so many examples of idiot drivers on the roads today, that I could type forever. This of course, is not really a political issue. It's just something that I felt the need to share with everyone else, cuz I'm sure that most of us are in agreement about these types of drivers. We've all seen them, and we all have had to put up with them. But there's really not much you can do about it.
Oh sure, you can wave the universal highway greeting gesture at them, the finger, but you'll only get the same in return (or worse), and it will have no effect on him whatsoever. If he doesn't care about the other drivers on the road, he's certainly not going to care about you giving him the finger.
Ya know, sometimes I think that people have actually forgotten how to drive over the years. After all, you only have to take your driver's test once in your life, at 16 years old, and then you can drive til your 116 without ever having to take another test. Perhaps we should administer a driving test to all drivers every so often, say every 10 years or so. That way, they could become more acquainted with the rules of the road that so many of them seem to have forgotten. At least the written test anyway, and I wouldn't even be against giving an actual road test every so often. It might just weed out some of these really awful drivers, and there are QUITE a few of them out there.
Of course, this idea has little or no chance of becoming reality, mostly because it would affect every one of us who drives a car. Are you so sure that you really remember ALL of the rules of the road? Just for fun, pick up a driver's manual from your local DMV. Look through the booklet, and see if you can answer the mock test at the end. You just may surprise yourself as to how much you've actually forgotten.
I actually had to retake both my written and road test several years ago. I completely forgot about renewing my license, and by the time I realized it, it had been more than 6 months since it expired. In Maryland, that means you have to take both tests over again. No problem, right? Last time I took it I was 16 years old, and I remember that the written test was all multiple choice, with 3 idiot answers and 1 correct answer. It was pretty much a no-brainer. However, since that time, they had changed that test drastically. It was still multiple choice, but on most questions there were at least 2 POSSIBLE correct answers, and 2 idiot answers. It was no longer a sure thing. Luckily, I only missed one question, and went on to pass the road test as well. But things were much different than I had remembered.
At least the experience taught me that I HAD forgotten some of the rules of the road over the years, even though I thought I knew them all. Perhaps we should start testing people every so many years now. At the very least, it would teach some of these drivers the rules again.
But then again, some people still wouldn't care, would they?
